TI-Rescue grieves loss of Sister EMT
One of our dedicated and outgoing EMT’s is embracing a new challenge and her spirit will be truly missed at TI-Rescue.
Deborah Jane Powers Oliver, 71 passed away February 4th 2016 at her home surrounded by loved ones and incredible Hospice nurses. She battled cancer for over 20 years with humor, grit and positivity, beating the odds many times over. Deborah was a passionate educator who taught for the Cranford, NJ school district for 25 years and continued to instill her love of reading and learning for years afterwards by tutoring local youths. She had lifelong love of the Thousand Islands, retiring here with her husband Bob in 2002 and capturing that beauty through her art and poetry. She volunteered as an EMT with both TIERS and Wellesley Island Volunteer Fire Department, sharing her compassion and caring with the community. She was also a member of the Clayton Methodist Church.
Deborah was predeceased by her brother David and her parents Robert and Elizabeth Powers. She is survived by her husband Bob, daughter Danielle (Jimmy) Jones, son Scott (Molly) Oliver, sister Cyndie Powers Hall and nephew Jon Powers. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Wellesley Island Volunteer Fire Department Building Fund, a cause she vigorously worked for in her final years.
A Celebration of Life will be held this summer so that all of her River friends can attend.
Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY and condolences may be made online at www.frederickbrosfuneralhome.com.
We will miss you Debbie!
